Climbing for FR NSW Rhodes
On Saturday 2nd September 2023, myself and 600 Firefighters and other Emergency Service Personnel are stepping up to fight depression, PTSI and suicide by climbing the 28 floors of Crown Metropol Hotel wearing 25kgs of turnout gear and breathing apparatus. In the “Donned & Started” category competitors race with their breathing apparatus (SCBA)“on air”
The Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb is an annual charity event that sees Firefighters (career and volunteer) and other Emergency Service Personnel come from all over Australasia and the world to compete and fundraise.
The event simulates the actions of a firefighter entering a burning high rise building, wearing full structural firefighting protective clothing, and wearing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Dräger SCBA.
Other Emergency Service Agencies represented include the Police, State Emergency Service, Forest Fire Management and Ambulance, all of which climb in the personal protective clothing and equipment relevant to their agency.

9/11 Memorial
The Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb remembers the 343 Firefighters that lost their lives in the line of duty on 11th September 2001.
My stair climb race bib will include the name and photo of FDNY Firefighter Raymond M Meisenheimer in memory of their sacrifice made on that fateful day. Search and read more about Raymond M Meisenheimer.
So far, I've raised $340 of my $500 fundraising goal.
