11th Annual
Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb

On Saturday 7th of September 2024, Firefighters and Emergency services personnel from across Australia and the globe will descend upon Melbourne to ascend the gruelling 28 Floors of the Crown Metropol raising vital funds for Cancer Research and Crisis Support!

Our climbers will battle 28 floors in up to 25kg of turnout gear and breathing apparatus as a symbol of the burden of significant health and well-being issues faced by our first responders and their families on a daily basis, some will also be breathing "on air" through a self contained breathing apparatus adding a extra level of difficulty to their climb.

We need your help to raise $750,000 to support our beneficiaries, Lifeline, Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation and 000Foundation

But our climbers won’t be alone, they will be supported by our fantastic climb crew volunteers and medical support teams along the way, who will be cheering them on as they embark upon one or the toughest stair climb challenges on offer!

Lifeline is a national charity, operating 40 centres across Australia, providing those experiencing a personal crisis with access to 24 hour crisis and suicide prevention support. Lifeline receives over 1 million contacts annually; with a phone call to 13 11 14 every 32 seconds. Australians call Lifeline to talk about thoughts of suicide, relationship worries, mental health concerns, loneliness and isolation, loss and grief, abuse and trauma among other issues. During the COVID-19 Pandemic the demand for Lifeline’s services had increased by 30%. The funds we aim to raise for them will ensure that staff and volunteers can cover the phones during peak periods on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings when people feel at their most vulnerable and turn to Lifeline. We want to help Lifeline ensure that not one person has to face their darkest moments alone.

Peter Mac is Australia’s only public hospital that’s 100% dedicated to cancer treatement, research and education. It’s also home to Australia’s largest cancer research group. Peter Mac’s commitment to research is based on the belief that treatment informed by research, and research informed by treatment, is the key to progressing better cancer care. Working within the hospital environment means their researchers are uniquely placed to translate research discoveries as quickly as possible into real treatments for cancer patients. Sadly, cancer is a leading cause of death in the community and firefighters and other emergency service workers are overrepresented in the number of cancer cases globally. The funds we raise will help Peter Mac’s dedicated cancer researchers make new breakthroughs and discover more cancer cures.

The 000Foundation (Triple Zero Foundation) is a brand new charity dedicated to the welfare of our Emergency Service Personnel, with a particular focus on the issues of mental health experienced by the sector. The $100,000 we aim to raise for the Foundation will enable them to introduce innovative new programs to improve the mental health of Emergency Service Personnel and our community. It will also assist in looking after the welfare of our members, particularly those adversely affected by their service.

The 000Foundation is the MFSC administrator and as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR), registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC), will issue all tax deductible donation receipts.
