Climbing for CFA Mitchell Shire Group

9/11 Memorial
The Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb remembers the 343 Firefighters that lost their lives in the line of duty on 11th September 2001.
My stair climb race bib will include the name and photo of FDNY Firefighter Richard T Muldowney Jr in memory of their sacrifice made on that fateful day. Search and read more about Richard T Muldowney Jr.
So far, I've raised $2,522 of my $1,000 fundraising goal.

Thank you for your generous donation. The beneficiary organisations all do important and effective work. The 10th Annual Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb is a charity event that will see around 700 career and volunteer firefighters come from all over Australasia and the world to do the climb. There are also some members of partner emergency services such as police and the state emergency service to join us too. The event simulates the actions of a firefighter entering a burning high-rise building, so is exclusively for firefighters in full structural firefighting protective clothing, and wearing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). In the “Donned & Started” category competitors race “on air”. Although qualified to go “on air” I will be competing in the “Donned Only” Category – where I still go in full structural firefighter gear and wearing the SCBA, but do not wear the mask – in deference to my advanced years and the fact that I’m sure one tank wouldn’t get me all the way up! Luckily 3 stories is as high-rise as it gets in Seymour. Also In remembrance of the tragedy of 9/11 My stair climb race bib will include the name and photo of FDNY Firefighter Richard T Muldowney Jr Richard T. Muldowney‚ Jr.‚ 40‚ firefighter‚ FDNY‚ Ladder 7. As a child‚ Muldowney and his friends would fight mock blazes. At 18‚ Muldowney joined the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department Company‚ and‚ nine years later‚ the FDNY. Outside the firehouse‚ he was a spectacular carpenter and could build almost anything. He was also a Long Island bayman who enjoyed fishing‚ crabbing and clamming. Richie adored his entire family. I feel a little selfish in using the event as a motivation to get myself fit again - time will tell as to how fit - and how long it takes me to get up those stairs…. Thankyou again Tony

I prepared what I thought might be an informative thanks but on reflection it may be just be longwinded - which I was going to send to all my generous supporters as I thought the message would go as an email direct to you – You can read it under Joanne’s name ( I used her as a test case)
