Here's your chance to pit yourself against 600 Firefighters in a climb up 28 floors wearing 25kgs of Turnout Gear and Breathing Apparatus. This year, the Firefighter's Charity Fund with your help will be climbing to raise $700,000 to aid in the fight against depression, PTSI and suicide. Compete, donate, or sponsor a Firefighter to help the Emergency Services Foundation support mental health initiatives.
Australian firefighters are up to 250% more likely to contract various cancers, and in many cases there is no cure. Driven by prolonged exposure to toxic chemicals, combustion byproducts, and legacy firefighting foams, the risk increases with years of service and the number of incidents attended. Many will know the impact such exposure has had on my family, other fire fighting family’s, both now and into the future – its a high price to pay for a volunteering years of your time to the community.
Times are tough for many, but everyone has a few spare $$$ if they look hard, give up that morning coffee or the afternoon beers for a few days – pretty small price to pay to support a few worthy causes.
End of financial year is coming in hot and donations over $2 are 100% tax deductible.
So far, I've raised $2,156 of my $5,000 fundraising goal.
