Climbing for CFA Wendouree

I’m a bit of a WILD CARD at this event because I was a brand new recruit on applying for the MFSC and am borrowing structural gear for the event. Unfortunately I am moving to QLD circa October 2018, so this event is very important to me. My key motivation in participating is to support mental health for emergency service workers and the rest of the community. A stigma still remains about the ‘non physical’ trauma people suffer and I want to help in any way I can. This has also allowed me to bond with a fantastic small squad of altruistic people here in BALLARAT.
Background summary;
I grew up in country north QLD after moving from New Zealand aged 11, eldest of three children. In Brisbane I started a long career in cinemas, working with Birch, Carroll and Coyle, Australian Multiplex Cinemas and IMAX. As a single parent of two children in 2010, I decided to move my family to Melbourne, after I had earlier experienced Victoria for a year, as a Qantas domestic Flight attendant. My Qantas career lasted nine years. I have been lucky enough to have had recruit training with Victoria Police both in General Duties and PSO role, reluctantly leaving this organization to properly care for my young family. My son experiences Autism Spectrum Disorder and I have learnt much from him and myself in the process. Currently I am a fulltime student studying Physiotherapy at ACU, with an alternate entry pathway from Nursing/Paramedicine. I love my volunteer work as a CAFS respite foster carer, St John first aider, and now as a new CFA recruit firefighter. I love working in team/squad based environments and appreciate the structure, comraderie, and support it provides it’s members. Lastly I want to fill my life helping others, I have a fun sense of humour, and enjoy meeting new people.

So far, I've raised $274 of my $500 fundraising goal.
